Whether you are a new or experienced provider, Medicare can sometimes be challenging. We invite you to join us at the 2019 Novitas Symposium to explore the most current information and resources available to help you remain compliant with the Medicare program.
This year’s symposium is a two day event offering numerous classes, during multiple sessions, dedicated to providing you with the knowledge necessary to be a successful Medicare provider. You have the option of attending a class within each session, or customizing your participation to your own personal schedule and area of interest.
To register for the in-person symposium, you must have a Novitas Learning Center account. If you do not have an account, click on the Learning Center page and select Register for an Account. If you have an account you can select the register button for the location you would like to attend in the Register column below. You will be directed to the Novitas Learning Center.
You can earn up to 6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) per day at our Symposiums. The number of CEUs is based on the number of classes you attend.

Registration for each day of the symposium will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. Attendees must check in for general registration and at each class to receive credit for attending.
Wi-Fi is free and will be available at all events. Bring your laptop, device, or smart phone to access our interactive event handout materials available in the Learning Management System. Hardcopy handout materials will not be available at the event.
Novitas Solutions will not be providing food or beverages. If food or beverages are available at the venue, it will be at your expense.

This session will explore the various Medicare contractors that contribute to preventing fraud, waste, and abuse of the Medicare program. We will discuss the new Targeted Probe and Educate process and illustrate how to prevent and research denied claims. We will also review important Medicare coverage guidelines and resources to assist in accurate billing and coding.

Appeal or not appeal? This class will focus on the Medicare redetermination and reopening process, also referred to as an appeal. You will learn the different levels of appeals, as well as the difference between a redetermination and a reopening, and how to successfully submit these requests. This class is an introduction to the Novitasphere portal: a free gateway to access and submit Medicare information. We will present an overview on how to access and enroll in Novitasphere and explore the many features this program has to offer. We will review the enrollment process, new and existing features, and eligibility functions. Access to Novitasphere will save your office time and money by eliminating unnecessary rebilling of claims, appeals, and recoupments. Come see how efficient your office could by using this resource!

Want to learn more about how to bill and document E/M services? This is the course for you! This class will review the relevant Medicare guidelines regarding initial and subsequent inpatient hospital evaluation and management services as well as new and established office/outpatient evaluation and management guidelines. Frequently identified billing and documentation errors will be discussed and helpful tips for resolution will be reviewed.
Target Audience: Physicians, Non-Physician Practitioners, compliance officers, and billing and coding professionals who have a basic knowledge of E/M services. We recommend you take this class as a prerequisite to Effective Methods for Billing and Coding of Evaluation and Management (E/M) Services class

This class will discuss medical necessity, how to minimize coding errors, and review common, preventable documentation mistakes that often lead to down coding and overpayments.

Our session will begin with reviewing the pitfalls of billing and coding emergency room E/M services. Any physician/NPP billing observation care is encouraged to join Novitas Solutions in an informative session on Observation Rules and Billing for Physicians. This program will provide you with an understanding of “Observations Status” and the tools to code observation care properly.
Is your facility providing outpatient services to inpatients of another hospital? This class will provide billing guidance for facilities who bill for outpatient services provided to beneficiaries who are inpatients of Long Term Care Hospitals, Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities, Inpatient Psychiatric Facilities, and Critical Access Hospitals. Participants will learn how to bill for outpatient procedures for overlapping claims, interrupted stays and repeat admissions.

This class will introduce Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) coverage and billing requirements, special billing circumstances, consolidated billing procedures, audit findings, and recently discovered targeted probe and educate (TPE) errors.

This class will focus on Advanced Care Planning, Chronic Care Management Services, and Transitional Care Management coding and billing guidelines. This class will provide an overview of CAH billing, including; Method I, Method II and specialty items/services (e.g., ambulance, observation and laboratory). The information you receive in the class will enhance your knowledge and help to ensure proper billing, review common documentation errors, obtain valuable resources, and explore self-service tools.
Target Audience: CAH Part A billers, coders and compliance officers
This class is designed for anyone that bills Physical and Occupational Therapy Services to Part B. We will be discussing basic coverage and documentation guidelines, the therapy cap, reporting the correct number of units, modifiers, and billing examples. We will review common errors from the Comprehensive Error Rate Testing Program and the Targeted Probe and Educate process. This class does not pertain to UB-04 billers.
