The IRF benefit is designed to provide intensive rehabilitation therapy in a resource intensive inpatient hospital environment for patients who, due to the complexity of their nursing, medical management, and rehabilitation needs, require, and can reasonably be expected to benefit from an inpatient stay and an interdisciplinary team approach to the delivery of rehabilitation care.
CMS will host a national provider education webinar for inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) providers review FY 2027 IRF Prospective Payment System (PPS) final rule policies and related Medicare coverage requirements, including revisions related to the 36-hour requirement, initial interdisciplinary team (IDT) meeting requirements, and documentation expectations related to these requirements.
